Biografia
Pedro Gromwell, ludovicense, era filho de Ignácio Raymundo dos Reis, militar do então 5.º Batalhão de Infantaria que foi morto em combate na Revolta de Canudos em 1897. Estudou na primeira Escola de Música do Estado do Maranhão, formando-se em 1904. A partir de então, passou a atuar como violinista e regente em bailes de carnaval, soirées dançantes, cinemas e em navios a vapor. Foi professor de música particular, na Escola de Bellas Artes e no Instituto Musical São José de Ribamar, mantido pela pianista Sinhazinha Carvalho (1897-19??). Atuou como regente de banda na Escola de Aprendizes Artífices na década de 1910 e na Escola Técnica Federal – atual Instituto Federal do Maranhão (IFMA) – entre as décadas de 1950 e 1960. Na administração musical, participou da Sociedade Musical Maranhense (SMM), sendo presidente em dois mandatos. Também fez parte do Conselho Regional da Ordem dos Músicos (OMB/CRMA), em 1961. Fez um importante trabalho de copista por solicitação do padre João Mohana (1925-1995), ajudando a preservar parte da memória musical do Maranhão. Faleceu em São Luís no ano de 1964. Deixou peças dançantes, hinos e algumas obras com melodias do folclore de sua época.
