Biografia
Paulino Almeida, filho de Augusto Paulo de Almeida, nasceu em Caxias. Fez seus estudos musicais com o saxofonista Josias Chaves Belleza (1898-ca.1980) em sua cidade natal. Em São Luís, foi membro e diretor do Jazz Alcino Bílio, um importante grupo que atuou em todo o Norte do Brasil entre 1930 e 1959. Como saxofonista e compositor, conquistou fama em São Luís. Mudou-se para o Rio de Janeiro em 1941, cidade onde veio a falecer na década seguinte. Deixou várias peças populares para piano solo, disponíveis hoje no Arquivo Público do Estado do Maranhão (APEM).

Biografia
O mulato Pedro Alexandrino de Souza, conhecido popularmente como “Pedro do Rosário”, foi um musicista de relevante atuação na orquestra do Teatro São Luiz na segunda metade do século XIX. Estudou no Liceu Maranhense na década de 1860. Uma de suas ladainhas, composta para o Trezenário de Santo Antônio, foi muito apreciada, sendo interpretada até décadas depois de seu falecimento nos festejos de Santo Antônio da vila do Paço, atualmente Paço do Lumiar. Em críticas posteriores, Adelman Corrêa afirmou que Pedro do Rosário foi autor de melodias “simples” e “acessíveis ao ouvido”, motivo pelo qual sua Ladainha teria se tornado popular.
