Foi um prolífico compositor de óperas e operetas cômicas, gêneros que certamente facilitaram seu reconhecimento ao se estabelecer em São Luís em 1850, na condição de diretor do então Teatro São Luiz e responsável pela temporada de 1852. Ao chegar na capital maranhense, ofereceu-se como professor de piano, arranjador e vendedor de partituras. Em 1851, compôs a Novena de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, provavelmente sua última criação. Obra de vulto do repertório maranhense, permaneceu em circulação até a década de 1920, graças à iniciativa do pianista e compositor Carlos Marques, sobrinho do médico e historiador Cezar Augusto Marques, de quem Miró foi amigo pessoal. Seu irmão Leocádio lhe deu as primeiras aulas de música, inicialmente na viola e depois no violino. Aos 14 anos, tomou parte como violista no concerto de estreia do Teatro da Paz em Belém, sob a regência de Francisco Libânio Colás. Em 1879, começou a compor danças de salão. Três anos depois, iniciou suas aulas noturnas de música em São Luís, além de dirigir sociedades de concerto e realizar soirées em casa, com récitas de música e poesia. Foi professor de cordas da Casa dos Educandos Artífices de 1883 até a extinção desse estabelecimento, em 1889. Em 1890, foi para o Rio de Janeiro tentar carreira como tenor. O sucesso de suas apresentações fez com que o Conde de Leopoldina oferecesse subsídios para uma estadia de seis meses em Milão. Durante seus estudos na Itália, em 1892, participou de um concerto em homenagem ao centenário de nascimento de Gioachino Rossini, regido por Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901). Retornou para São Luís, e dois anos depois, mudou-se para o Recife. Em 1895, tomou parte no Festival Carlos Gomes, apresentando-se com o compositor, o qual declarou que Antonio foi o melhor cantor intérprete de ‘Il Guarany’. Em 1896, voltou ao Rio de Janeiro, tornando-se vice-diretor da Academia Livre de Música. Em 1899, fez um festival em Salvador, sendo nomeado professor catedrático e diretor da orquestra do Conservatório dessa capital. Entretanto, deixou o cargo para voltar ao Maranhão em 1900, onde passou a dar aulas no Liceu Maranhense e na Escola Normal.
